Our Story

Following 17 years in the retail firearms and gun repair business, Tom and Laurie Foster closed their retail store, and have taken their expertise to Internet gun sales. The desire to have their business goals match their personal priorities of spending quality time with their family and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle prompted the decision to make the change.

After graduating from the Colorado School of Trades in 1984, specializing in Gunsmithing, Tom started a one-man gunsmith repair store in a small town in Oregon. For 10 years he repaired and restored guns and, with the help of his wife Laurie, sold guns and accessories at gun shows in Oregon and Washington. In 1996 they opened Shooter's Mercantile. Shooters' developed into the premier gun store in the area with retail gun and accessories sales, an indoor shooting range with over 500 members, Gunsmithing services, classroom instruction and a Law Enforcement sales division. 

However, running a business can take a toll on working owners. For Tom, a paraplegic who has been confined to a wheelchair since 1981, the toll has been physical. With the formation of Lone Oak Tradng, Tom will continue to utilize his extensive experience in the field by managing this internet based business selling guns, gun parts, accessories, and collectable items.

Laurie is the President and Office Manager of Lone Oak Trading LLC, but prefers any kind of outdoor activities- particularly trap shooting and photography. She keeps the office running smoothly and makes sure we all get paid on time.

Tom Foster

Tom is our Technical Advisor and has been a gunsmith for over 30 years. Other than his expertise for repairing guns, he is an avid bird hunter and outdoorsman who likes his oversized toys.

Christopher Foster
Christopher Foster

Chris is the son of Tom and Laurie. He has been immersed in the gun industry his entire life and after earning an MBA from Willamette University he has returned to work in the family business. He enjoys outdoor pursuits such as trap shooting, kayaking and team sports. He also lifts all of the heavy items around the office and fixes technological issues.

Ellie Foster

Ellie is the canine of Chris. After her birth in Denver, Colorado she moved with her parents to Ohio to be a part of the family business. She enjoys her position at Lone Oak Trading as Head of Security and Treat Procurement. She will greet you at the door during any pre-approved appointments.
